Mousa Dembele started his football career when he was just 7 years old. He joined the German Beerschot club in Belgium in 2004. A year later he went to the Netherlands and joined Dutch club Willem II but things did not go as he planned. After minimum playing time Dembele was transferred to another Dutch club name AZ Alkmaar which started his big break as a footballer.

In AZ Alkmaar he was under legendary Dutch coach Louis Van Gaal. Dembele became the most valuable young player in the league on 2006-7 when AZ Alkmaar lost the league on the last day to PSV Eindhoven. After winning the Dutch league, Mousa Dembele was certain to go to Birmingham city on the premier league but he changed the destination last minute to go to the London club Fulham in 2010.
