JaVale McGee started his college career after he attended two high schools in Michigan, and Detroit County Day School and Providence Christian, before transferring to Hales Franciscan High School in Chicago. He averaged 14.3 points and 7.3 rebounds, shooting 53% from the field and 33% from three point range after his sophomore campaign, he decided to hire an agent and declare for the 2008 NBA Draft.
JaVale McGee started his professional career after he was selected 18th overall by the Wizards in the 2008 NBA Draft. He signed two year contract worth $2.4 Million deal with the Wizards on 9 July 2008. He was later fined $10K by the Wizards for participating in Gilbert Arenas’ antics before a game on 5 January 2010 against the Philadelphia. He was also chosen to participate in the 2011 NBA Slam Dunk Contest on 6 January 2011. He was the first Wizard to ever participate in the contest. He was also the first player to use three balls at one time dunk in a dunk contest, which was later cited by the Guinness World Records as the most basketballs dunked in a single jump. He averaged over 10 points and 8 rebounds in 2010-11 and 2011-12 season with the Wizards. Later, he was traded to the Nuggets along with Ronny Turiaf in a deal that sent Nene to the Wizards on 15 March 2012. He started 40 of 41 games in which he appeared as a member of the Wizards with the Nuggets, he would start in a 5 of 20 games in which he appeared. He was later transferred to Philadelphia 76ers on 19 February 2015. He was waived by the 76ers after appearing in six games on 1 March 2015. He was later signed by Dallas Mavericks on 13 August 2015. He made the debut for the team on 22 November 2015 playing in just under 11 minutes off the bench, recording 8 points and 6 rebounds in a loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. He was released by the Mavericks on 8 July 2016. He signed a contract with the Golden State Warriors on 16 September 2016. He scored a season high 17 points in a 103-90 victory over the New York Knicks on 15 December 2016. He resigned one year contract with the Warriors on 1 August 2017. Later, he signed a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers on 10 July 2018. He had hus career highs of 33 points and 20 rebounds along with six blocked shots in a 111-106 loss to the Brooklyn Nets on 22 March 2019.
