Clint Capela started his career after he joined the Elan Chalon team of the LNB Pro A in 2012. He has also represented the World Team at the 2014 Nike Hoop Summit on 14 April 2014. He was also named the Best Young Player and Most Improved Player of the 2013-14 LNB Pro A season in May 2014. He was later selected with the 25th overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft by the Houston Rockets on 26 June 2014. He signed a contract with the Rockets on 25 July 2014. He scored his first NBA points, finishing the game with eight points and nine rebounds in a 99-96 loss to the Toronto Raptors on 30 March 2015. He also appeared in more playoff games than regular season contests in the 2014-15 season and averaged 3.4 points in 7.5 minutes per postseason game. Clint Capela also recorded his first career double-double with then career highs of 13 points and 12 rebounds as a starter in a 116-110 win over the Sacramento Kings in the second season on 6 November 2015. He recorded his third double-double over a span of four games which included a career high 18 points.
Clint Capela scored a career high of 20 points in a 111-102 victory over Utah Jazz on 19 November 2016. He set a new career high with 21 points against the Portland Trail Blazers on 27 November 2016. He was also ruled out for six weeks after suffering a broken fibula. After returning, he went on to score 22 points on both January and February 22, before recording a 24-point effort on March 4 against the Memphis Grizzlies. Clint Capela has become a restricted free agent after the 2017-18 season. He signed a five year contract worth a $90 million extension with the Rockets on 27 July 2018. He was later transferred to the Atlanta Hawks from Houston on 5 February 2020.
