Biography
Steve Smith was born in Sydney, New South Wales in a small town named Kogarah. He was born to his father Pete Smith and his mother Gillian Smith. Pete was a chemist while Gillian worked as a homemaker. Regarding siblings, he has a sister named Kristie Smith. From a very early age, Steve was passionate about Cricket. When he was attending Menai High School, he performed brilliantly in the matches he was involved in. Despite being excellent in sports, he was average in his studies so his grades were not good. Finally, he dropped out of high school to fully pursue his career in Cricket.
After leaving high school, he had a choice of playing for Australia and England. He went to England to join a local cricket club named Kent Cricket League. Career
Steve Smith began his Australian cricket career in 2008 with the Australian under 19 teams in the Under 19 World Cup. Initially, he joined the team predominantly as a leg spinner and a part-time batsman. Smith was phenomenal in the tournament with over 100 runs and 7 wickets. After impressing in the Under 19 world cup, Smith was selected for first-class cricket for New South Wales. He played against Western Australia and later provided meaningful contributions in the 2009 Champions League as well.
A year later in 2010, Steve Smith was selected for the Australian Twenty- 20 team against Pakistan. He also made his ODI debut against West Indies in the same month. As in the First-Class cricket, Smith was selected predominantly for his leg-spin and part-time battling as well. On March 24, 2018, in a Test match against South Africa, one Australian bowler named Cameron Bancroft was accused of tampering the ball with Sandpaper. He later acknowledged in a public interview that the whole group, including Captain Steve Smith, knew about what he had done. Following a ruckus, Steve was eliminated from captaincy and was replaced by Tim Paine. Steve was prohibited from international and homegrown cricket for a year after a thorough investigation by ‘Cricket Australia. Steve Smith accepted the charges and return to cricket in 2020.
